Jack Eggleston is in conversation with John Hartig. John will reach out to Chief Ted Roll
of the Wyandott Andernon Nation. Beyond creating a nice park, we want to be able to
name forgotten people and history, recognizing life of the Indian people past, present,
and future. It is hoped that we might have an educational event or events that will guide
any recommendations for the park.
2026 MLK Observance Review
The Trenton Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. observance was held at the Trenton Village
Theater on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. The theme was I Have a Dream: Be
the Change. There were two presentations by students from the Trenton High School.
Dr. Noel Jackson, President of the Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center (DYPAC)
welcomed people to the theater.
Jack Eggleston served as the host for the event. Trenton Public Schools Superintendent
Douglas Mentzer introduced the student presenters, inviting the appreciation of the
audience that was gathered. Students did engage the audience in some conversation.
Darnell Blackburn from Pratt International LLC was the speaker. You can find him on
Channel 4 WDIV. He talked about diversity and the various ways that people see them.
He asked audience members to participate in the conversation.
Attendance was low, particularly because we had limited publicity. The theater is a great
public place to hold the event but perhaps limits participation of audience members.
2027 MLK Plans
Over the last three years we have limited planning to members of the Cultural
Commission which is not required when planning the event. The 2027 planning will
begin in April 2026 and involve additional members and organizations in the community.
Trenton High School Involve 1-3 students (1 student confirmed interest)
Open Book Theater Krista Schafter (confirmed interest)
DYPAC I did reach out to them
Stellantis Trenton I left a voicemail
It is my hope that with a larger (and younger team) that we can get creative.
Justice and Peace,
Jack Eggleston
