The meeting was called to order at 6:01 pm.
2. Old Business
a. Community Refrigerator
Mrs. Hornbeck reported on the progress with the community fridge with the city.
We have funding, need to work with Mr. Beaker regarding a place for it. Students
from the high school (NHS) would be responsible for keeping it clean and
removing expired food, etc. YC would like to have it at Westfield so it is most
available to residents, since the food pantry is only open 2 hours a week.
Placement at Westfield would especially benefit seniors who may need food
assistance.
b. Student Government Day
YC would like to do this in late April (potentially April 14, 2026 with April 15 or
16 being alternatives). Ethan Gilbert created a form for students to apply for a
role. They will be required to create a short video and then students will vote on
them. This would be done immediately after Spring Break. We also discussed a
reflection sheet to complete to get a “School Related” absence. Dates and details
will be discussed with the city (Hornbeck) and the school (Scott).
3. New Business
a. Election of Officers: At the next meeting, YC will nominate and elect officers for:
Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer
b. Cornhole Tournament: Discussion about a possible summer activity either at
Westfield or on THS lawn. Entry fee could be a donation to Animal Shelter or a

small cost ($5). This would keep the commission active and engaged in the
summer.
c. Food Pantry: YC would like to volunteer at St. Philips food pantry one evening
every other week in order to expand their hours of operation. Currently, they are
only open 2 hours a week, Wednesdays. Mrs. Hornbeck will contact Pat Hartig to
see if this is a possibility. YC understands that an adult must be present for each
evening. There are multiple adults involved with YC, so hopefully this would not
be a hindrance.
4. Commission Comments
a. Several commissioners discussed the need for more service opportunities for NHS
and using the YC to create some opportunities.
5. Public Comment
a. No members of the public were present.
6. Adjourn
a. The meeting was adjourned at 6:43pm. The next meeting will be held on February
10, 2026 at 6:00 at City Hall.
