CERTIFICATION OF FINAL COUNT
The ballot also contained the following advisory questions.
ADVISORY QUESTION ON RANKED CHOICE VOTING
Shall Section 31 of the Charter of the City of Greenbelt be amended to allow for rank choice
voting?
With Ranked Choice Voting, voters rank candidates in order of preference. Votes are considered
in voters' order of preference and are redistributed as winners are determined (based on a
threshold related to the number of seats) and last place candidates are eliminated.
"Do you approve of the City using Ranked Choice Voting for all City Council Member elections
and amending the City Charter's forty percent (40%) threshold criteria (Sec 31)?"
The results of the advisory question were:
FOR the Charter Amendment 2,151
AGAINST the Charter Amendment 1,032
The advisory question was therefore declared approved.
ADVISORY QUESTION ON COUNCIL TERM LENGTH
This advisory question was asked in two parts.
PART 1: "Should the Charter be amended to change Council terms from two years to four
years?"
PART 2: "If four-year terms are approved, should Council Members be subject to Voter Recall
Petitions during their terms in office?"
The results of the advisory question part 1 were:
FOR the Charter Amendment 1,265
AGAINST the Charter Amendment 1,904
The results of the advisory question part 2 were:
FOR the Referendum Recall 2,546
