The algae bloom has not been terrible this year. The first treatment is scheduled for the week of 5/23-5/27. Rick advised that harvesting is currently scheduled to start in June and that he will complete another survey prior to harvesting. He also advised that the whole lake will not be harvested, this is only to clear a path for boats to get through. Tom stated that he is nervous about the harvesting from past experiences where the Chara and Milfoil were just spread to different areas of the [PAGE 2] lake. Rick advised that they will not be harvesting Chara and the Milfoil will be treated prior to the harvesting to minimize the spread. The board is still trying to find a location to dump the spoils. Harvesting cannot begin until there is a location for spoils. Public Hearing Rick provided a draft budget to the board to present at the next public hearing. The budget provided showed a 50% increase from the prior budget to allow for rising prices for chemicals and services. This new budget should also allow a bit more contingency money in case additional treatments or services are needed. The board would like to tentatively hold the public hearing on July 16, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Crop Park. Denise will call the park for availability. There being no further business to come before the Lake Board, a motion was made by Tom and seconded by Dick to adjourn the meeting at 4:55 p.m. Motion carried. _______________________________ Todd Sattler, Secretary Winfield Lake, Lake Board State of Michigan } } ss: County of Montcalm } I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and complete copy of the minutes of a meeting of the Winfield Lake, Lake Improvement Board, Montcalm County, Michigan held on May 19, 2022, and that said minutes are on file in the office of the Montcalm County Drain Commissioner and are posted on the website at www.montcalm.us and are available to the public.
