RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING - KRC

Present: Bob Watkowski, Anna Mierkowics, Marianne Robinson, John MacDonald,
Scott Coleman, Linda Kell, Keith Kneiding, Tim Beaker, Matt Stanley, Sam Sawnick
I. Approval of Minutes, February 2025.
A. Motion to approve with amendment that Mark & Marianne were present
from Anna. Second by Keith. Pass.
B. Motion to excuse Bob Wade, Linda Kell and Mark Gilstorf by Anna.
Seconded by Keith. Pass.
II. Staff Updates
A. Director Overview
B. Staff Updates
i. Sam – Gave updates on Westfield Center, prepping for summer
programs. Gave update on Heather’s fitness, lifeguard and swim
progress.
ii. Matt – Marina opening April 1, progress ongoing. Rink spring
tryouts, draft skates, Summer HS league coming along. Looking at
rink floor programming like roller hockey. Updating logos on ice.
III. Commissioners Assignments and Reports
A. Scott – Waiting to hear from football
B. Keith - Spring leagues and skating programs, sticks and pucks going strong
C. Marianne – Garden started onions, working in green house
D. Anna – School job postings, spring try outs beginning
IV. Old Business
A. Rotary Park Update – Approved, once frost laws lift construction will
begin
B. Pool Update – EGLE has the ball in their court, DNR needs to approve,
then wayne county, then we can go to bid.
C. KRC Ice
V. New Business
A. Slocum Park – Bids approved. $450,000 Wayne County CDBG money for
new ADA accessible play ground, pathway, basketball court, pickleball
courts, batting cages, resurfacing baseball field
B. Bond Construction on Recreation Buildings – Engineering process @
Westfield, shoring up of new designs, rink getting new lot, solar project
for the rink to save 30-35% in facility energy, new roof allocated
