It was reported that Kim Koehl of Shelby Senior Services had left her position and would no longer be a committee member or the Treasurer of the Coalition. Liz Renton has agreed to serve in that capacity and all the bank information would be transferred from Don Collins to Liz Renton after arrangements had been made with the Fifth-third bank to make the changes for the signing authority to her. The Minutes of the February 24, 2025 meeting reviewed and approved. They were sent to all members by email. Don Collins reported the current bank balance was $7,376.71. A service fee of $922.50 was paid to Stephenson-Rife for their work in restoring our non-profit status. NEW BUSINESS President reported on the successful “Shelby Shines Prom” held by the First Christian Church and The Arc of Shelby County. Over 90 people attended at the local American Legion Hall and it was decided by the church to conduct the event again next year. The prom is held to give people with special needs an opportunity to hold a dinner-dance and enjoy an evening of fun. President Kay also reported on the upcoming Strawberry Fest to be conducted by Shelby Senior Services and held on the city square. She and Tyler Comstock discussed and explain the locations of all the handicapped accessible parking spaces that would be available to accommodate those with special needs. Copies of the parking layout are attached. A layout for the design of a Livable Communities Banner sign was provided and the members agreed to get a quote to have it printed. It will be used for various events that the Coalition will be attending or participating in. It was also agreed that the logo on the sign could be used and replace the temporary one used previously. A copy of the approved banner is attached. President Kay also reported on several other construction projects and issues involving ADA compliance and concerns. These included the following; The SASCO 3-year survey, the open house of the new Early Learning Center at the Intelliplex, the Shelby County Active Aging Coalition, and the MHP Site Facility. She also attended the Board of Works and Council meetings via Zoom. She also [PAGE 2] plans to visit, or have someone visit, a variety of other local events or construction sites to ensure the needed accessibility requirements are included. She also informed the group about the lunch and Learn program at the Senior Center and informed everyone that Liz Renton is doing a booklet to hand out at presentations that will be made at future meetings. Kay is also trying to get additional handicapped parking places at the concessional stand at the Blue River Park and suggesting some automatic doors at the restrooms at the park. Kay had a proposal for an award program for the “Livable Communities Gold Star Awards.” The group thought this was a good idea but needed a rewrite. (Plaques are very expensive, so she asked for other options or suggestions from members.) The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 23, 2025 at 4 pm at City Hall. OLD BUSINESS Following discussion by the group on the subject of having bags for give aways, it was decided and agreed that we table the idea until we could evaluate how well our displays were working. The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 pm. Don Collins, Secretary
