The Mayor and Council met in a regular meeting on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. at the city hall with the following members present:  Jerome Webster, Shawn Lassiter, and Chris Harrison. Webb Nall was attending a funeral, and Eunice Johnson was at work.

A quorum being present Mayor's Staff called the meeting to order. Greg Vaughn led in prayer, followed by the pledge of allegiance.

Minutes of the May 9, 2022, regular meeting – A motion was made by Chris Harrison and seconded by Jerome Webster to approve the minutes of the May 9, 2022, regular meeting as written. Vote: all ayes. The motion was approved.

ABC License Transfer – The license was formerly under the Trade Name Mike and Ike Food Mart. This is a license transfer request to QuickStop Food Mart. The location remains at 50 Carver Avenue. A motion was made by Shawn Lassiter and seconded by Chris Harrison to approve the request. Vote: all ayes. The motion was approved.

2021 Grass & Weed Abatement Cost Reports – Greg Vaughn presented a summary of 2021 grass and weed cost reports for 15 properties. He is asking permission to move forward with filing the tax lien on each property. A motion was made by Jerome Webster and seconded by Shawn Lassiter to approve the request. Vote: all ayes. The motion was approved.

HPC Appointment – Foster Kizer resigned his position on the HPC. A motion was made by Chris Harrison and seconded by Shawn Lassiter to appoint Kevin Classen to the HPC. Vote: all ayes. The motion was approved.

Garbage Fee Increase – The last increase in garbage fees was in 2008. With the rise in fuel costs, the city has to make a change. A  motion was made by Chris Harrison and seconded by Shawn Lassiter to increase the garbage fee by $10 per month beginning July 1. Vote: all ayes. The motion was approved.

A motion was made by Chris Harrison and seconded by Jerome Webster to adjourn. Vote: all ayes. The meeting was adjourned at 4:05 p.m.
