Trenton Cultural Commission Minutes
Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.
Trenton City Hall - Commission & Boards Meeting Room
The meeting was called to order at 4:16 p.m.
Commissioners Hana Mitsusada-Boylan, Carmela Rose Langley, and Jack Eggleston were
all present at the meeting.
The minutes for the September 29, 2025 meeting were reviewed. It was moved by Jack
Eggleston and seconded by Carmela Rose Langley to accept the minutes and place them
on file. The motion passed unanimously.
No communications were received.
There is a balance of $2,194.19 in the current budget and the Commission Account
Balance is $944.19. There were no income or expenditures in the recent reporting period.
Camela Rose Langley moved and Jack Eggleston seconded to accept the accounts and
expenditures report. The motion passed unanimously.
Jack Eggleston updated the commission on plans for the Trenton MLK Observation on
Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Trenton Village Theater.
• We have confirmed availability of the theater with the Downriver Performing Arts
Center (DYPAC). We will have access to the theater at noon on January 18. Jack will
work with Pat Yeagar, DYPAC staff, regarding sound and audiovisual needs.
• Joanna Whaley has agreed to again serve as the musician for the event.
• Jack Eggleston met with students from Trenton Public Schools Superintendent Doug
Mentzer’s Student Advisory Council. Several students will be making presentations
at the event. Jack will also check to see if any art students want to share any MLK
artwork at the theater.
• Darnell Blackburn has agreed to serve as they keynote speaker. He is the CEO of Prat
International and is part of the Local 4 WDIV news staff. He is on the morning
program. Darnell has experience in law enforcement and is a diversity trainer. He
indicated that he would give participants some diversity experiences.
• The commission explored and named the theme: I Have A Dream: Be The Change!
• Jack Eggleston will contact Patrick Taylor to see if he can help to produce a fresh
recitation of the I Have a Dream speech. The speech can be played before the
program begins, as interludes during the program, and when the program is
completed.

Jack Eggleston moved that the Cultural Commission request authorization of $500 as an
honorarium for Darnell Black Burn, Prat International LLC. Carmela Rose Langley seconded
the motion. It passed unanimously.
Carmela Rose Langley moved that the Cultural Commission request authorization of $200
to Joanna Whaley for being the musician for the MLK Observation Event. Jack Eggleston
seconded the motion. It passed unanimously.
Carmela Rose Langley updated the commission on the Trenton Ambassador Program. She
will work with Celina Peters to outline a potential schedule for the program including
financial projections. They will work with City Administrator Dean Creech to explore
implementation possibilities.
There are no new updates on how we can be culturally competent on how we
commemorate and honor Monguagon Park. Jack Eggleston will reach out to Dr. John Hartig
who is a member of one of the tribes and report back to the commission.
There were no public comments.
The next meeting of the Cultural Commission is scheduled for Monday, December 15,
2025, at 6:00 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
