LAKE IMPROVEMENT BOARD MEETING
May 12, 2022

A meeting of the Rainbow and Middle Lakes, Lake Improvement Board was held
at the Montcalm County Drain Commission, 211 W. Main Street, Stanton, Michigan on
the 12th day of May 2022 at 5:00 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Anne at 5:02 p.m.
PRESENT: Kate Bradley, Montcalm Township Representative
Tom Smith, Montcalm Township Representative
ABSENT: Todd Sattler, Secretary, Montcalm County Drain Commissioner
Adam Petersen, Board of Commissioners Representative
ALSO
PRESENT: Mike Solomon, Restorative Lake Sciences
Anne Gaylord, Montcalm County Drain Commission
Todd McCord, Paul Houghtaling, Cynthia and David Ellis
A motion was made by Kate and seconded by Todd M to approve the agenda.
Motion carried.
A motion was made by Tom and seconded by Kate to approve the minutes from
August 5, 2021, as presented. Motion carried.
Public Comment
Paul Houghtaling brought up there are excessive snapping turtles in the lake and may
need trapping. Mike advised that snapping turtles are not a matter for the lake board. Paul
stated that he would reach out to the DNR. Cynthia and David added that they would like
a sewer system to be added around the lake to get rid of old septic fields. Again, it was
stated that sewers are not an issue for the Lake Improvement Board. Todd McCord
mentioned a beaver is causing high water levels.
Election of Officers
Tom stated that he believes Kate would be a wonderful chairman of the board. Kate
accepted the nomination.
A motion was made by Anne and seconded by Tom to elect Kate as the chairperson of
the Turk Lake Improvement Board. Motion carried
Board Vacancy
Todd McCord introduced himself to the board and stated his interest in joining the board
and filling the vacant position for the abutting property owner’s representative.
A motion was made by Anne and seconded by Kate to elect Todd McCord to the Turk
Lake Improvement Board as the Abutting Property Owner’s Representative. Motion
carried.

Weed Control Program
Mike provided au update to the board on the weed control program. He stated that there
is a big difference between the quality of the front and back lakes in terms of weeds, with
the back lake having much lower quality. Mike is glad to have representatives from the
back lake on the board. Mike advised of the rules for swimming and water usage during
treatment timeframes. The lake will be surveyed on 5/16 and the first treatment should be
done in the next week.
Public Hearing
The board discussed the scheduling of the public meeting to be held later this summer.
They decided that the meeting would tentatively be held on Saturday, July 23rd, 2022 at
9:00 am.
Financial Update
Anne provided a financial update to the board advising of the current balance. She also
added that settlement has been received and will be added to the register before the next
meeting.
There being no further business to come before the Lake Board, a motion was made by
Kate and seconded by Todd M to adjourn the meeting at 5:54 p.m. Motion carried.
