January 24, 2025 Meeting Minutes

Review Minutes from December 18, 2024 meeting
• Minutes approved following correction of a typo.
Review updated designs
• Mary Fedorowski reviewed updated design options following feedback from the previous
meeting, which included designs with Antique Olive and Minion fonts, the addition of an oak
leaf Native applique border, several border color options, a wider base for the flame, the
addition of “Community – Diversity – Vision” to the border, and removal of “Wabskoki” and
“1888” from the design
• Maria suggested having the final design professionally printed to convey the exact colors used in
the design, as colors may vary depending on printing method or when viewed digitally
• Jasmine asked the group to revisit the conversation from the prior meeting, in which the group
discussed removing “Wabskoki” from the design following survey feedback. Jasmine shared why
she felt including Native language was essential.
• The group engaged in a discussion regarding the inclusion of Native language within the design,
and if it was possible to do so while ensuring the broader Skokie community felt included and
represented
• Sheila felt it was important that the committee be able to clearly show how public input was
incorporated into the design, and Dick shared that he felt including “Community,” “Diversity,”
and “Vision” was an accurate and inclusive reflection of Skokie.
• Jasmine suggested committee members reflect on what each design element means to them
• The group did not come to an agreement on text to include within the design, and decided to
meet again to revisit the issue on Tuesday, January 28
• Patrick updated the group on timeline considerations, including FY26 Budget and the upcoming
Board schedule
Next Meeting Date
• The group set Tuesday, January 28, at noon as the next meeting date.
• Another meeting date was tentatively set for Thursday, February 6 at 8 a.m.
